Jupiter, FL
Loxleigh, as this house is called, has Bermuda roofs of thick tiles covered in stucco with boarded eaves.
Doors open outwards and windows are fitted with impact resistant glass. The house has also been designed to resist rot and termites with masonry columns and internal joinery using only the most robust timbers: mahogany and Brazilian cherry. As the house was under construction, Florida was battered by no less than three hurricanes. Despite the damage to the region, these storms tested the structure’s ability to withstand 120 mph winds.
